Fixing
Bad OpenTL Files by Steve Tushar
A few times I have seen Nuendo and other applications
export a buggy OpenTL file which causes errors when loading this project
on a TASCAM MMP-16. This is mainly caused from overlapping regions
and fade files.
Easy
Fix
Load the OpenTL file in MM-EDL and re-export the project to the same drive
with "Smart Copy" enabled, so you don't re-write the audio files.
MM-EDL will correct these errors and generate a new *.tl file. Then
you will have the confidence that your session will load in an MMR-8,
MMP-16, or MX-2424 when you ship the drive across town to the dubbing
theatre.
What
is OpenTL? by Sweetwater
Short for Open Track List, which is a specific type
of Edit Decision List format developed by TimeLine Vista to be used in
Tascam MM and MX series disk recorders. The protocol is published
and can be adopted by any manufacturer who wants a simple way to transfer
sessions in and out of the Tascam recorders. The Open TL format
recognizes a variety of disk file systems including HFS, HFS+, FAT-32
(and others), and audio file formats such as Broadcast Wave, Sound Designer
II, and AIFF so it's relatively easy for most other systems to achieve
compatibility.
Example use of
OpenTL
File exchange is possible (between various departments) containing
all existing handles / extensions in the project clips. OpenTL support
is available on MMR-8/MMP-16/MX-2424, plus a variety of DAW's eg. Steinberg
Nuendo v2.1.1.25. This makes Foley or Looping sessions shot on the
MX-2424, immediately available for editorial with all clips un-rendered.
The OpenTL ADL also permits the MX-2424 to be used as a dubber at
the theatre, due to the fact that sessions are available with all extensions.
